Graduation Ceremony for the 2023-2024 Preparatory Vietnamese Language Course for Lao Students
On the morning of August 22nd, the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, VNU-HCM, successfully held the graduation ceremony for the 2023-2024 Preparatory Vietnamese Language Course for Lao students. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Mr. Lonphanh Phaodavanh, Consul in charge of Education, Culture, and Sports at the Consulate General of the Lao PDR in Ho Chi Minh City, along with his spouse. Representing the university were Dr. Pham Tan Ha, Vice Rector; the Board of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, and the faculty members who taught the course, as well as the 23 Lao students who have been studying at the Vietnamese Language Center for Foreigners since November 2023.
In his speech, Dr. Pham Tan Ha expressed his delight in witnessing the students’ progress since their first day and extended his best wishes for their upcoming studies in Vietnam. He also thanked the Consul for entrusting the university with the task of preparing the students for their Vietnamese studies.

Mr. Lonphanh Phaodavanh expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the faculty and the university for providing an excellent learning environment for the students, allowing them to enhance their Vietnamese language skills and experience Vietnamese culture. He emphasized that this collaborative educational program is a testament to the deep friendship between Vietnam and Laos.
Representing the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, Dr. Nguyen Huynh Lam, Vice Dean and academic advisor for the course, presented the final report on the program. The report highlighted the impressive achievements of the 23 Lao students: 18 students reached B2 proficiency, and 5 achieved C1 proficiency.
In conclusion, Professor Dr. Huynh Ngoc Thu, Dean of the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, affirmed that teaching Vietnamese to international students is a key activity of the faculty and the university, contributing to the promotion of the Vietnamese language and the image of Vietnam to the world.
