Theme 1: “Vietnamese through Cuisine – Southern Pancake (Bánh xèo)”

The Vietnamese Language Center for Foreigners, under the Faculty of Vietnamese Studies, University of Social Sciences and Humanities (USSH), VNU-HCMC, proudly introduces the 2025 series of “Vietnamese Cultural Experience Activities.”

The opening theme, “Vietnamese through Cuisine: Southern Pancake (Bánh xèo)”, combines language learning, cultural discovery, and hands-on experience. It offers international learners an authentic opportunity to understand Vietnamese culture through its most flavorful expression — food.

Wednesday afternoon, December 3, 2025 (from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM)

PROGRAM DETAILS

Part 1 – Introduction & Language (Approx. 50 minutes)

  • Warm-up and get-to-know session between instructors and participants.
  • Overview of bánh xèo – its origin, cultural meaning, and regional variations.
  • Learning Vietnamese vocabulary and expressions related to food, ingredients, and cooking techniques.

Part 2 – Cooking Practice (Approx. 70 minutes)

  • Step-by-step demonstration by the instructor on how to make bánh xèo.
  • Participants work in small groups or individually to make their own pancakes.
  • Practice Vietnamese in real-life situations while experiencing the joy of cooking and sharing.

Part 3 – Evaluation & Closing (Approx. 30 minutes)

  • Evaluation and fun competition among groups – prizes for the best pancakes.
  • Tasting session and sharing reflections in Vietnamese.
  • Closing remarks and group photo in a friendly and cultural atmosphere.

WHO CAN JOIN

The activity welcomes foreigners who love Vietnamese language and culture, especially current students at the Center or affiliated programs.
Maximum participants: 20
Languages used: Vietnamese (with English support)

PARTICIPATION FEE

Free of charge (for 2025 activities).

  • Office hours: Monday to Friday (except weekends and public holidays)
